Jesse P. Spoon letters, 1903-1904 [manuscript]

The Jesse P. Spoon Letters are ten letters documenting Spoon's life as a student at North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (later North Carolina State University). The letters are addressed to Robert A. Coble of Oakdale, North Carolina, who was Spoon's classmate at what Spoon calls "Oakdale School." This may refer to Oakdale Academy, which was a preparatory school in Alamance County. Spoon discusses military training, classes, and social receptions at the college, as well as other notable events like measles outbreaks. There is also some discussion of events in Oakdale, a community in the Patterson Township of Alamance County, North Carolina. The first seven letters were written from January to April 1903, with the following three being from March and May of 1904.
